I tried another new (for me) conference, this time in San Diego.  It is a nice conference, quite informative and helpful, and it is even sometimes fun.

But I have to admit that I actually had more fun outside of the conference than inside of it.  Dan and I had lunch at a little place across the street.  The birds were so friendly that they actually would eat out of your hand.  The "full sized" hamburgers were outrageously priced at $13.00, but the "children's" burger was enough for me, being the same as a quarter pounder elsewhere.

As Johnny and I had done in Europe, Dan and I stayed with city hosts while we were in San Diego.  This house of four guys was in a quiet part of the city about twenty minutes from the conference.  All of the guys were fun and interesting.  Paul is a college professor.  Geoff does acupuncture (though I didn't get to try it), and during the big fires near San Diego the following week, he volunteered his time giving massages and acupuncture to the evacuees.  Sean works for a company that creates geologic maps.

We drove down to San Diego for Toorcon the day before the conference started, so that we could have some time to explore Tijuana, Mexico.  It had been nearly ten years since I was there last, and for Dan it had been even longer.  I bought several things, as did Dan, but our favorite is the churros.  We bought and ate three bags of them!

Thank you, guys, for letting us stay with you!
