The Hacker Foundation tried something new this year, offering a package to combine Defcon in Las Vegas with the Chaos Communication Camp in Berlin.  They paid our entry into Defcon and the CCC, plus flew us from Vegas to Dusseldorf and then took us by bus to the Camp.  They even provided housing (in tents) and food.

CCC is held every four years at a small airport northeast of Berlin, Germany.  The area set aside for our group was central, right across from the meetings, which were held in quonset huts.  The seminars were great when I could understand them.  Most of the presenters are German, and the echo in the huts made it difficult to understand even the English speakers.  Still, I did learn quite a bit from the seminars.
