Klawock, Alaska, population 850.

If I move here, this will be the smallest town I have ever lived in.  I very much like the area and the people.  I would enjoy living here.

Klawock River, Falls and Lake.

Below are three views of the river itself.  This lake empties directly into the ocean.  Salmon run this river, as they do all rivers in the area, every year, and fishermen come from miles around.  Salmon can get be over three feet long here.

Yes, it snows in Alaska, but on POW there is less snow than most people would think.  I was surprised to see this much snow so early in the season, and Joe confirmed that those high peaks are white all winter long but that not much snow falls in Klawock itself.

Bald Eagles.

I've seen a few bald eagles in my life, but never as many as I did on my trip to POW.  At one point, we spotted half a dozen.  A hunter had left part of his deer for the birds to eat.  I was pleased to have seen so many of these birds and so close.

Klawock Shopping Center.

This very long building houses the local grocery and dry goods store, a liquor store, the Post Office, and various other shops.  It is only a half mile walk from Joe's house.

A bay in Prince of Wales Island.

I love that there are so many small islands all over.  I look forward to the time I live here and can ride my own little boat out to explore some of these places.  Even though I get seasick, I know I'll be spending many hours cruising around the island.

A house in Craig, Alaska.

Eight miles from Klawock is the larger town of Craig (population 1200).  This house is actually someone's home.  No, most houses in Craig do not look ANYTHING  like this one.  I'd never seen anything like this one, though.  I guess you'd have to open your umbrella to get from the bedroom to the kitchen.
