Networld+Interop is one of my favorite conventions, and it seems to improve each year.  There are more of the free seminars, and the exhibits are always up to date at Interop.

Events from 2004

This year Networld + Interop was held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, rather than the Las Vegas Convention Center.  There seemed to be sufficient room for Interop, but it is much more difficult to get from the parking to the convention here.

Of course, I didn't spend all my time at either the Interop convention or in the hotel.  (I actually spent less time in the hotel than usual.)  I attended several shows, some of which were good and others not so much.  The worst was a freebie magic show (sorry, no photos) where I was the only person in the audience.  The tricks were so old that I remember doing them when I was ten, and I truly think I did them better back then than these two did them.

I again got a good deal at the hotel for my Interop visit, costing much less than half price.  El Cortez Hotel is located downtown, but it still had a view of the Strip.  The El Cortez Hotel is not the newest location, but its new Tower is very nice.  This was one of the largest rooms I have ever enjoyed in Las Vegas.

The most enjoyable show I saw while I was at Interop was The Fashionistas.  There was no one at the door to check my ticket, and so I got to enter for free.  I found out later that it was supposed to cost fifty dollars or more.  I also attended an impersonator show (not so great but still enjoyable) and a card magic show (quite good).

This was my first time to play Pai Gow Poker.  I enjoyed myself quite a bit, and I ended up a winner.  I played about three hours and walked away four whole dollars richer.  But I also won a free entry into the Pai Gow Poker Tournament in August, a five hundred dollar value.

While downtown on The Fremont Street Experience one evening, I saw an advertisement for deep fried twinkies.  I've never even heard of such a thing, but I thought I would give it a try.  Of course, I like most anything that is deep fried, and then there is all that sugar under the fried fat.
