Events from 2002

This is the third or fourth year that I have attended the computer convention Comdex in Las Vegas.  I have always enjoyed it.  I was disappointed, however, with this year's Comdex.

My disappointment came when I entered the exhibit hall, which has always been the highlight for me.  The space provided to the reduced number of exhibitors was about one third of last year.  The record low attendance of fifty thousand had to squeeze past each other on the overly crowded show floor.  It made it difficult to stop and talk with the exhibitors.

The speakers at the seminars are always enjoyable and informative, and this year was no exception.  The speakers provide insights and predictions about the computer industry and technology.  They present it in a very enjoyable way.

After hours was fun, as usual.  I attended a few free shows.  My favorite show on The Strip has always been the pirate show at the Treasure Island.  They changed the show this year, though, to make it more of a dance routine.  It took away much of the excitement and intensity of the show.

I always enjoy being downtown in Las Vegas at the top of each hour at night.  It is at those times that the entire street is darkened in order to present The Fremont Street Experience, a show of lights and music covering four city blocks.

I stayed at three different hotels for the four nights of this trip.  The first night was my first time staying at a hotel downtown.  The registration lady gave me a free upgrade to a mini suite.  It was very nice and had a good view of The Stratosphere and The Strip.  Not bad for twenty dollars!

My second and third nights were at the hotel right next to the convention.  That was very convenient in that I didn't have to drive or park to attend Comdex.  I simply walked.

Since I was having so much fun the first few days, I decided to stay an extra night.  I had a coupon for a free room, and so I used it to stay one night at The Stardust.  I asked the man while I was checking in if he might have any coupons, expecting a discount sheet for food and such.  He gave me four free meals and a free ticket to the hypnotist show that night.
