We stopped in Squaw Valley the ski resort and rode up the cable car to the Olympic Village.  That was a really fun thing.  At one point the cable car rises quickly to clear a rock outcropping, and it appears that there is not enough room for the car to fit between the wires and the rock.  But at the last moment the car lifted quickly to pass the rock, and we got our first view of the Olympic Village.

The Olympic Village was built for the 1960 Olympics.  There are ski slopes, an ice skating rink, swimming pool and spa, restaurants, and many great places for views.  I really liked it up there.  The wind was blowing constantly, and I have always liked wind.  The temperature was nice.  Neither of us had thought to pack a jacket or even a long sleeved shirt, but we were fine.  Our fingers got a bit cold now and then, but there were many buildings into which we could go to warm up.

We stayed at the Fire Lite Lodge in Tahoe Vista on the north shore of Lake Tahoe for that Tuesday night.  It was a nice place with all the amenities, including an in room refrigerator and microwave.  The view from our second floor balcony of the lake was nice.

The cable cars leave every twenty minutes.  We thought at first that we would catch the first car back down, but we ended up spending more than an hour at the top.  It was really fun exploring.  The cable car ride back down the hill was even more fun than the ride to the top, because we were now looking down the mountain.  When we arrived at the bottom, we got a waffle cone for lunch and then headed on toward Lake Tahoe.
