Events from 1999

The second day of the new year, Corey and I drove up the coast a ways to see what we might see.  He had been this route previously, but I had not.  Nevertheless, we were able to find something that we both could enjoy, something that neither of us had done.  We visited Fort Ross.

As we clambered up and down stairs and all around the grounds, we could imagine the difficult life these people had to endure and yet the joys they could also share.  There were so many cannon in that place (forty), that the Spanish never even tried to get them to move.  It seems to be a formidable fort.

Fort Ross is an historic Russian fort from the early 1800's.  It has quite a bit of history behind it, and it is fun to explore.  Other than the buildings that are being revamped, we could get into everything.

The setting of the fort is the beautiful north California coast.  You can see through this cannon port what some of that coastline looks like.
