Water Leak

The winter of 1998-1999 was the most intense winter I have experienced up here.  In all the eight years I have lived here, it has snowed only one winter, and that winter it snowed FIVE TIMES.

Because of the extreme cold, the water lines around the property and inside the bus broke in several locations.  It took me DAYS to locate and patch them all, and I never did find one of the leaks.

I could tell by the water usage that there was one more broken line, but after spending hours and hours trying to locate the leak and even enlisting the help of the cowboy who runs his cattle here, I finally gave up and simply accepted the fact that there was one leak I would not be able to find.

On November 13, 1999, as I was attempting to assist the cowboy in rounding up his cattle, I ran across a large puddle and noticed water oozing out of the ground.  Of course, this was the leak (I hope) for which I had been searching all that time.  Only eleven months after the fact, I had finally found it!

I began digging up the problem, and as I did so, the leak got worse.  Of course, my hitting it with the shovel a few times probably didn't make things any better.  *smile*

I was able to replace the broken union without much incident, other than getting soaked and muddied.  I certainly hope this is the end of THIS story.
