We prepared a dinner of honey-baked ham and yams.  I had never done a dinner like this myself, and it was quite an experience.  I found I truly enjoyed being in a real kitchen again.

The food itself was exquisite, the best yams and the best ham I have ever had.  We also made a pumpkin pie.  It did not seem to work the way it was supposed to, and it looked rather roughed up when it was done, but it sure did taste good as part of the Y2K celebration.

At midnight, we clicked glasses of champagne (sparkling wine, actually, now that I know the difference) and enjoyed the pumpkin pie.  This was only the second time I had ever had champagne (or sparkling wine).  It was rather tasty, but I still did not finish my one glass.  The alcohol simply is a taste for which I have never acquired a liking.
