On Friday, November 19, 1999, I headed east from Fresno into the Sierra.  My destination was the camp at Hume Lake.  This is a beautiful privately owned lake at the entry to Kings Canyon, which is the headwaters of the Kings River.  I spent the weekend there at a men's retreat.  Ten of us attended from my church.

It had been a very long time since I had spent a night in a cabin in a situation like this, and it amazed me how well-practiced some of the men are at snoring.  *smile*  After awhile, I was able to fall asleep, but every hour someone's watch would wake me up with its beeping.
