A Dayhike to Jackass Lake

October 17, 1999

Dave Clingman and Corey in Ansel Adams Wilderness, Yosemite backpacking

My friend Corey and I hiked up the two miles from the trailhead to Jackass Lake on October 17th.  This hike is not especially steep in most places, but the trail does climb one thousand feet, from 7600 to 8600.

It is a very pleasant hike with many nice views (as you will see), and it is especially pleasant in the fall, when the temperature is cooler, the fall colors are startling, and there are NO BUGS.   *smile*

When the winds die down, the waters reflect like a mirror.

Norris Lake makes an excellent rest stop or lunch stop.  The water is warmer here than in other nearby lakes, since it is more shallow.
